A legacy of hospitality since 1910
Welcome to the Boutique Hotel Rosengarten in Hamburg,
where family tradition meets timeless charm in Hamburg.
Welcome to Café Rosengarten!
That was the name given to the Randel family's jewel when it was built in 1910 – or affectionately called "Little Randel" because it was located directly across from its big brother, Restaurant Randel. There, in Hamburg's beautiful Alstertal valley, the café offered a unique blend of tradition and coziness. A glimpse into the past: The origins of both establishments lie with farmer Wilhelm Randel, born January 20, 1848. His older son, Max Theodor Wilhelm Randel, born June 13, 1874, ran the "Waldhof" restaurant (later known as Restaurant Randel), and Richard Randel, born April 8, 1878, ran the Café Rosengarten.
A place of hospitality since 1933
The Rosengarten was founded by Richard Randel, born in 1878, and passed on to his successors in the family. Erwin Randel Senior, born in 1910, took over the reins at a young age and passed on his attention to detail and quality for guests to his son, Erwin Randel Junior, born in 1945. Each generation has its own history and influence, but one thing remains constant: our dedication to authentic hospitality and good taste. Be inspired by our long-standing tradition and enjoy unique moments at today's Boutique Hotel Rosengarten in Hamburg.
An era of devotion in the Rose Garden
From 1970 to 2015, Erwin and Christel Randel, the third generation of the family, shaped the face of the Rosengarten. Under their leadership, our restaurant and café in Wellingsbüttel flourished and became a popular meeting place for locals, family celebrations, and parties, as well as for travelers. Their tireless dedication and attention to detail made the Rosengarten what it is today—a place full of warmth, hospitality, and unforgettable culinary experiences. Let us reminisce together and honor the story our walls tell.
Here you can see the younger daughter Nina with her father, Erwin Randel, standing together in front of the rose garden—a symbolic image of the continuation of our deep-rooted family tradition. Nina, part of the fourth generation, is growing up and already brought a breath of fresh air, while learning from her father's values and knowledge, although she was more snacking than learning back then. 😋
A new chapter in the rose garden
1981 was a year of farewells and new beginnings. The old, beloved Café Rosengarten had to make way for new dreams. From these dreams emerged a new concept that became reality on November 13, 1982: the small, exquisite Hotel Rosengarten in Hamburg's picturesque Alstertal, lovingly planned and opened by Christel and Erwin Randel. We celebrated the transformation with a renewed focus on hospitality and comfort, without forgetting our roots and attention to detail.
40 years of hospitality at the Hotel Rosengarten
For almost four decades, Christel and Erwin Randel have managed the Hotel Rosengarten with dedication and a personal touch. For many guests, our hotel has become more than just a place to stay in Hamburg—it has become a home away from home and a festive venue for unforgettable family celebrations and parties. Each room tells stories of hospitality and warmth that have accompanied our guests over the years. We are proud that so many special moments have been celebrated under our roof.
Batten handover at the Hotel Rosengarten
In 2015, the eldest daughter, Maike Randel, took over management of the Hotel Rosengarten from Erwin Randel Jr. After seven years of dedicated leadership, Maike handed over the reins to her younger sister, Nina, in September 2022. Nina and her husband Andreas bring fresh ideas and visions that will further enrich the boutique hotel in Hamburg and keep the tradition alive.
Homecoming and new horizons at the Boutique Hotel Rosengarten
After more than two decades away from Hamburg, Nina Glöckner, née Randel, and her husband Andreas have returned to run the Boutique Hotel Rosengarten in the fourth generation. Since September 2022, they have been bringing their extensive international experience in the hotel industry to the family business. Together, they are proud to continue the tradition of the Rosengarten, which has been preserved in family ownership for many years and generations.
